History of Catholic Campus Ministry at SUNY Albany
Catholic campus life at SUNY Albany dates to at least the early 1960s, when Bishop William Scully of Albany personally wrote to Catholic students urging them to join the Newman Club as the university expanded to its new uptown campus. Throughout the 1960s the club partnered with Protestant groups on ecumenical Bible studies and prayer services, marking the first joint Catholic–Protestant worship at Albany State. The Interfaith Center that today houses the Catholic chaplain's office has been a fixture of religious life at UAlbany since 1966.
