The UMass Lowell Catholic Student Union (CSU) is the Roman Catholic campus ministry of the University of Massachusetts Lowell, serving students, faculty, and staff of the public research university in Lowell, Massachusetts. The community celebrates weekly Sunday Mass in Moloney Hall inside University Crossing on Pawtucket Street and gathers around the Eucharist as the 'source and summit' of its life. The Catholic Student Union is a ministry of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Boston, Office of Campus Ministry, and is led by a priest-chaplain and a permanent deacon. All are welcome at its liturgies, prayer, Bible study, and fellowship events.

Weekly Sunday Mass, Sunday confession (offered in both English and American Sign Language), the Holy Rosary, and Bible study give students concrete ways to grow in faith during the busy academic year. With chaplains who walk alongside students on and off campus, the CSU offers a place to ask hard questions, build lasting friendships, and serve the Lowell community.

About the Catholic Student Union at UMass Lowell
The UMass Lowell Catholic Student Union is the university-recognized Catholic campus ministry, gathering students to grow in greater love and knowledge of God, of self, and of others. Liturgy & Sacraments
The CSU's liturgical life centers on the weekly celebration of Sunday Mass in Moloney Hall, University Crossing. The Sacrament of Reconciliation is offered during the hour before Mass, and the Holy Rosary is prayed before Mass begins. Confession and the liturgy are available in English and in American Sign Language, reflecting the chaplaincy's long partnership with the Archdiocese of Boston's Deaf Catholic Ministries.

Chaplains & Staff
The Catholic Student Union is served by a priest-chaplain and a deacon-chaplain who minister to the UMass Lowell community. The priest-chaplain also serves the wider Archdiocese of Boston through Deaf Catholic Ministries, which is why the Sunday liturgy and confession are offered in American Sign Language as well as English.

- Deacon Michael M. Mott — Deacon-Chaplain; Senior Deacon of the Archdiocese of Boston (effective March 14, 2025); veteran of the Camino de Santiago (2017 and 2024).
Faith Formation & Student Life
Beyond the Sunday liturgy, the CSU offers regular opportunities for prayer, study, and fellowship throughout the academic year. The community hosts Bible study and other gatherings during the week, organized through both the Center's office and the campus-recognized Catholic Student Union student club. The Center's office is open Monday through Friday from 10:30 AM to 7:00 PM and on Sundays from 1:00 PM to 9:00 PM, making it accessible to students around class schedules.

Deaf Catholic Ministry at UMass Lowell
Because the chaplaincy is led by Father Jeremy St. Martin, who serves as the Archdiocese of Boston's Coordinator of Deaf Catholic Ministries, the UMass Lowell Catholic Center offers Sunday Mass and Confession in American Sign Language. This makes it a regional resource for Deaf and hard-of-hearing Catholic students and visitors on campus. ASL Confessions are heard by the same priest as English Confessions during the hour before Sunday Mass.

Getting Involved
The CSU invites all students — Catholic or not — to attend Mass, pray, study the Bible, and grow in their relationship with God through the sacraments alongside other UMass Lowell students. The Catholic Student Union is registered as a student organization on UMass Lowell CampusGroups, where students can sign up, RSVP to weekly Holy Mass, and learn about upcoming events.

Visitors are warmly welcomed. The office is in University Crossing (formerly the Meehan Student Center area), Suite 380G, at 220 Pawtucket Street, Lowell, MA 01854. Mass and confession are in the adjacent Jacqueline and Edward Moloney Hall (room 260A). For directions within the building: enter University Crossing, climb the large staircase to the second floor, turn left at the top, and enter Moloney Hall through the left or center double doors.
