The Parish of Saints John and Andrew is a Roman Catholic parish on the south side of Binghamton, New York, in the Diocese of Syracuse. The parish was formed in 2008 from the merger of the former St. Andrew Church and St. John the Evangelist Church, and is now centered in the historic 1925 St. John the Evangelist church building at 1263 Vestal Avenue. Under Pastor Rev. James P. Serowik and Pastor Emeritus Msgr. Michael T. Meagher, the parish offers daily and weekend Masses, Eucharistic Adoration, a full faith formation program, a Catholic school, and the Loaves & Fishes Food Pantry that serves thousands of families each year.

Saints John and Andrew welcomes parishioners into a Catholic faith community called to discipleship in the Lord Jesus, sacramentally ratified and nourished by the Eucharist. The parish pairs daily and weekend Masses — including early 6:30 a.m. weekday Masses on Monday, Wednesday and Friday — with weekly Eucharistic Adoration and Benediction on Wednesdays, giving members regular access to prayer and the sacraments. Members can grow through faith formation for all ages, sacramental preparation, OCIA (formerly RCIA), the Totus Tuus summer youth program, Vacation Bible School, and a Catholic elementary school. Service to the wider community runs through the Loaves & Fishes Food Pantry, which assists roughly 8,000 families each year, plus ministries to the sick and homebound, the Golden Agers Club, and the St. Therese Society.

Visitors are welcomed to weekend and daily Mass, and to the parish's many ministries and formation programs.
Parish History
In May 2007, Syracuse Bishop James Moynihan announced the merger of St. Andrew Church (Conklin Avenue/Main Street) and St. John the Evangelist Church as part of the Diocese of Syracuse's pastoral reconfiguration. The merger took effect in 2008, forming the Parish of Saints John and Andrew around the historic 1925 St. John the Evangelist building. GCatholic records predecessor founding dates of 1907 and 1955. The former St. Andrew church was permanently closed, while the parish office and IHM Chapel moved into 7 Livingston Street.

Architecture of the Church Building
Ground was broken on June 17, 1924, at the corner of Vestal Avenue and Livingston Street. Designed by local architect Arthur T. Lacey of T.I. Lacey and Son, the church is an excellent example of modern Byzantine architecture: light-colored pressed brick with a massive copper dome, a six-column portico, a floor plan in the shape of a modified cross, and 70 stained glass windows. A great Rose Window sits above a 1926 three-manual Estey organ with 37 ranks of pipes, a feature still beloved by the parish. The church was dedicated in July 1925.

Mass & Liturgical Schedule
The parish offers a robust schedule rooted in daily prayer. Vigil Mass is celebrated Saturday at 4:00 PM, with Sunday Masses at 8:30 AM and 11:30 AM. Weekday Masses are celebrated Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 6:30 AM, and Tuesday and Thursday at 8:30 AM (as scheduled in the bulletin).

Faith Formation & Religious Education
Faith Formation at Saints John and Andrew serves children and adults through classroom catechesis, sacramental preparation, and parish-school programming. The parish coordinates Sacramental Preparation for Reconciliation, First Holy Communion, and Confirmation, and runs Vacation Bible School annually. Adult faith formation includes Bible in a Year with Fr. Mike Schmitz and a Lenten Bible Study.

Becoming Catholic — OCIA (formerly RCIA)
Adults seeking to enter the Catholic Church or complete their sacramental initiation are welcomed through the Order of Christian Initiation of Adults (OCIA, formerly RCIA). The parish walks with catechumens and candidates through the rites, culminating in initiation at the Easter Vigil. Inquiries are directed to the parish office.

Outreach — Loaves & Fishes Food Pantry
The Loaves & Fishes Food Pantry, operated jointly with St. Vincent de Paul Blessed Sacrament parish, provides free groceries to families and individuals in need in Broome County. The pantry serves about 8,000 families a year, open Mondays and Wednesdays from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at 12 Mill Street, Binghamton. Service is offered regardless of race, color, or religion; the amount of food provided depends on household size.

Totus Tuus Summer Program
Each summer the parish hosts Totus Tuus, a Catholic youth program dedicated to sharing the Gospel and developing the faith of young people through catechesis, prayer, and fun. The day program serves students in grades 1–6, and the evening program serves teens in grades 7–12.

Sacraments
The parish celebrates all seven sacraments: Baptism, Holy Eucharist, Confirmation, Penance (Reconciliation), Anointing of the Sick, Holy Matrimony, and Holy Orders. Patron Saints
The parish is named for two of the original Twelve Apostles: St. John the Apostle (often called St. John the Evangelist) and St. Andrew the Apostle, brother of Simon Peter and a former fisherman of Bethsaida who, according to tradition, brought Peter to Christ. St. Andrew's feast is celebrated on November 30.
