History of the Parish

St. William's has its origins in the Catholic rural life of the Red River Valley in eastern North Dakota. In its early decades it was pastored by Father William Theodore Mulloy, who was ordained for the Diocese of Fargo in 1916 and went on to pastor St. William in Argusville before becoming director of rural life, superintendent of Catholic schools, and president of the National Catholic Rural Life Conference; he was appointed the sixth Bishop of Covington, Kentucky, on November 11, 1944. Like many small farming-community parishes in the diocese, St. William's eventually transitioned to mission status, celebrated on a monthly Mass schedule.
