St. Wenceslaus Parish is a personal Catholic parish located at 3014 Oregon Avenue in the Benton Park West neighborhood of south St. Louis, Missouri. Founded in 1895 for the growing Bohemian (Czech) immigrant population that had outgrown the nearby St. John Nepomuk — the first Czech parish in the United States — the parish has been served by the Missionaries of the Holy Family (MSF) since 1960 and was designated a "personal parish" (without geographical boundaries) under Archbishop Raymond L. Burke in 2005. Today it is a bilingual (English and Spanish) community of the Archdiocese of St. Louis celebrating a daily Mass, a Saturday vigil, two Sunday Masses (one in Spanish), Eucharistic Adoration, and the work of multiple outreach ministries including two food pantries and sandwich service for the poor. The campus also hosts St. Frances Cabrini Academy, the consolidated Catholic elementary school for several south-side parishes.

St. Wenceslaus is a warm, bilingual (English and Spanish) community that has served south St. Louis for more than 125 years and is especially known for the strong family spirituality of the Missionaries of the Holy Family, who have staffed the parish since 1960. Daily Mass, Eucharistic Adoration on the first Sunday of each month, a Saturday vigil, and a Spanish Sunday Mass give parishioners many ways to worship together. The parish lives out the Gospel concretely through two food pantries (a St. Vincent de Paul conference pantry for parishioners and a community pantry supported by sister parish Holy Infant in Ballwin), regular sandwich-making for the poor, utility assistance, and its sponsorship of St. Frances Cabrini Academy — a multicultural Catholic school where families from more than 15 countries are welcomed. As a personal parish, anyone drawn to the Holy Family spirituality is welcome to call it home regardless of address.

Parish History
St. Wenceslaus was founded in 1895 for Bohemian (Czech) Catholic families in south St. Louis who had outgrown St. John Nepomuk, the mother Czech parish of the United States (est. 1854). A parish school opened the same year under the School Sisters of Notre Dame, and by the late 1940s enrollment had peaked at more than 500 students. The current English Gothic Revival church was built in 1925; the older church was converted into classrooms. In 1945 the parish welcomed the Missionaries of the Holy Family (MSF), and in 1960 Archbishop Joseph Ritter formally entrusted the parish to them. In 2005 Archbishop Raymond L. Burke made St. Wenceslaus a personal parish — without geographic boundaries — for those drawn to the MSF spirituality of family. The parish marked its 100th anniversary in 1995 and its 125th anniversary in 2020.

Today St. Wenceslaus is a bilingual (English/Spanish) personal parish of the Archdiocese of St. Louis, served by the Missionaries of the Holy Family. Its mission, as stated on the Archdiocesan parish page, is to be 'a community of Catholics in the Archdiocese of St. Louis endeavoring to live out the Joy of the Gospel, and to bring others closer to Our Lord, Jesus Christ, through our commitment to being missionary disciples who know and live the Faith.' Missionaries of the Holy Family
The Missionaries of the Holy Family (MSF) are a congregation of priests and brothers whose charism is to proclaim the Holy Family of Nazareth as the model and standard of holiness for all Christian families. They came to St. Wenceslaus in 1945 and have had pastoral care of the parish since 1960. Their spirituality shapes every aspect of parish life, from the Holy Family Prayer Association and Family Life catechesis to marriage preparation and family rosary campaigns.

St. Frances Cabrini Academy (Parish School)
St. Frances Cabrini Academy is the consolidated Catholic elementary school that shares the St. Wenceslaus campus (3022 Oregon Avenue, across the playground from the church). It was founded in 2003 by the merger of St. Pius V School and Notre Dame Elementary and is supported by ten Archdiocese of St. Louis parishes. Under principal Caroline Koetting the school serves a richly diverse student body whose families come from more than 15 countries, with a full-time social worker, instructional coach, and nutrition specialist on staff. It is named for St. Frances Xavier Cabrini, patron saint of immigrants — a fitting patron for a school born of immigrant communities in south St. Louis.

Outreach & Charity
St. Wenceslaus lives the Corporal Works of Mercy through several long-standing outreach programs. The parish operates two food pantries — one through its St. Vincent de Paul conference for parishioners in need, and another community pantry run with help from its sister parish, Holy Infant in Ballwin. The parish also regularly makes and distributes sandwiches for the poor and assists families with utility bills.

Buildings, Art & Sacred Music
The parish campus sits on the east side of Oregon Avenue in Benton Park West, directly across from Kutis Funeral Home, and is often the site of funerals of fallen St. Louis police officers. The present church, an English Gothic Revival building completed in 1925, replaced an earlier and more modest structure on the same site. The parish has published a study of its stained-glass windows dedicated to Saint Wenceslaus, and a Church Organ Concert was held at the parish in June 2024 as part of the ongoing 125th-anniversary celebration.

The Parish Office is open Monday 9:00 AM – 12:00 noon and Tuesday through Friday 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM (closed 12:00 noon – 1:00 PM for lunch). The office is closed on Saturday and Sunday.
