Parish History
St. Vivian Catholic Church was founded in 1943 to serve the growing Catholic community of Finneytown. Just four years later, in 1947, the parish established its parish school — making Catholic education a central ministry of the community. Today St. Vivian belongs to the Our Lady of Divine Providence Family of Parishes, a collaborative arrangement introduced by the Archdiocese of Cincinnati that allows neighboring parishes to share pastoral staff, formation programs, and outreach efforts.

Who Was St. Vivian?
The parish takes its patron from an early Christian martyr honored in Rome. According to the 16th-century account published on the parish website, Vivian was a Roman girl whose Christian parents were both persecuted for their faith. After her mother was beheaded and her father sent into exile, Vivian was placed under the guardianship of Rufina, a non-Christian woman, yet remained steadfast in the Faith. In 326 AD, during the reign of Julian the Apostate, she was tied to a pillar and beaten, dying from the assault. Her remains rest in the church of San Bibiana in Rome, a structure first built and dedicated by Pope Simplicius in the fifth century and later restored by Gian Lorenzo Bernini in 1625.

Worship Schedule
St. Vivian offers Mass four days a week, with the Wednesday Mass celebrated as a school Mass while school is in session (unless moved for a holy day). The Sunday 9:30 am Mass is livestreamed online — the stream begins at 9:25 am. The parish also maintains a robust weekly Reconciliation and Eucharistic Adoration schedule, and extends its celebration to a special First Thursday of the Month day of Adoration ending in Benediction.
Sacraments
St. Vivian prepares parishioners for every sacrament of the Catholic Church. Through its sacramental preparation programs, the parish prepares children for First Reconciliation and First Communion, teens for Confirmation, and couples for Marriage (by appointment with the parish). The parish also celebrates Baptism, offers the Anointing of the Sick for those with serious or chronic medical conditions, and assists parishioners who need to request sacramental records.

St. Vivian Catholic School has been part of the parish since 1947 — just four years after the parish itself was founded. The school is identified on its own website as rooted in Catholic faith and traditions, with religious education and spiritual development treated as essential parts of the overall student experience. In addition to the parish school, the parish runs Providence Kids (formerly PSR) — a faith-formation program for children in grades 1–5 who attend public schools or are homeschooled — as well as Vacation Bible School and sacramental preparation.

Faith formation at St. Vivian goes beyond the parish school. Adults can take part in the Ladies Faith Sharing group, which studies the Word of God using video and study guides by authors such as Bishop Robert Barron and Jeff Cavins, and is open to all women aged 18 and older. There is also a Young Adult Ministry and an Adult Ministry Coordinator supporting the ongoing formation of adult parishioners.

The liturgical life at St. Vivian is supported by a Music Ministry, Lectors, and parish committees. Liturgical music is led by Music Coordinator Julie Borgerding and Music Associate Director Scot Buzza. The parish also has a long-standing Parish Library of approximately 900 books located outside of the Gather area; it is free for all parishioners and operates without a formal check-out procedure.

Outreach & Pastoral Councils
St. Vivian lives the Gospel through outreach to those in need and through collaborative pastoral governance. The St. Vivian Conference of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul (SVdP) assists local families struggling to pay utility bills or rent, advises on ways to economize, and provides food when requested. The parish is also served by a Parish Pastoral Council (an advisory board to the pastor and parish administration) and a Finance Council, which helps guide the major financial decisions of the parish. A Network of Prayer Request connects parishioners who want to pray for one another's intentions.
