History
The church was built in 1832 and incorporated as St. Vincent’s Congregation in 1871. It was established by French and German Catholic settlers, many of whom were exiled supporters of Napoleon Bonaparte, and was heavily influenced by James Le Ray de Chaumont, who donated land and funds. The parish merged with All Saints Church in Chaumont and St. Vincent de Paul Church in Rosiere in 2004 to form The Catholic Community of Cape Vincent, Rosiere, and Chaumont. The community has undergone multiple renovations and improvements, including stained glass window restorations, rectory upgrades, and cemetery maintenance. The Le Ray de Chaumont Knights of Columbus Council #2148 has played a significant role in parish life since its founding in 1920.
Pastor History
The parish has had many pastors since its founding, including Fr. Simon (1832), Fr. Michael Guth (1843–1847), Fr. Louis Lapic (1851–1861), Fr. Victor Ritter (1869–1872), and Fr. Pierre Aubin, MSC (2002–present). Fr. Pierre Aubin, MSC, became pastor in 1999 and assumed responsibility for Cape Vincent, Rosiere, and Chaumont in 2002.
