History of St. Vincent de Paul Parish
A Catholic community has worshipped in Pampa since 1927. In 1940 Bishop Robert E. Lucey of Amarillo invited the Vincentian Fathers (Congregation of the Mission) — the religious order founded by St. Vincent de Paul in 1625 — to staff Holy Souls parish in Pampa (later renamed St. Vincent de Paul) and its mission in Canadian. The Vincentians ministered here for forty-five years. Following the Second Vatican Council, the Vincentians felt a renewed call to their missionary roots. They gradually withdrew from established Texas parishes and in 1985 formally left St. Vincent de Paul in Pampa. The Diocese of Amarillo then assumed direct responsibility for the parish, which it continues to staff today.
