Parish History

St. Vincent de Paul was organized in 1861 in the Sedamsville neighborhood as the second filial parish of St. Patrick's downtown Cincinnati. Father Donald Xavier McLeod served as its first pastor until 1865, when he was killed by a train near the parish. The original church was dedicated August 3, 1862. In 1878, German-speaking parishioners formed their own parish, Our Lady of Perpetual Help, and the English-speaking community continued at St. Vincent's. The present River Road church, dedicated in 1923 with an addition in 1929, replaced the original structure. In 1989, when Our Lady of Perpetual Help closed, the two parishes reunited at St. Vincent de Paul.
