St. Vincent of Paul Church is the historic Catholic parish of Cape Vincent, New York, located on Kanady Street in the village. It is one of three worship sites that together form the Roman Catholic Community of Cape Vincent, Rosiere and Chaumont, administered since 2002 by the Missionaries of the Sacred Heart (MSC). The parish is part of the Diocese of Ogdensburg and traces its origins to French settlers who arrived in the 1830s through the patronage of James Le Ray de Chaumont. The current limestone Gothic Revival church was built in 1858 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Weekend Masses are celebrated in English, with weekly confession offered a half hour before each Mass.

History of the Parish
St. Vincent of Paul Parish traces its roots to 1830s French Catholic settlers and a generous benefactor. James Le Ray de Chaumont donated land and funded construction of the first church, whose cornerstone was laid in 1832 by Bishop John Dubois. The parish was formally incorporated on August 3, 1871 as St. Vincent's Congregation. A succession of pastors built the rectory, expanded the buildings, and in 1953 Father Walter J. Charbonneau oversaw a major renovation of the church. On July 1, 2004, by decree of Bishop Gerald M. Barbarito, St. Vincent of Paul (Cape Vincent), St. Vincent de Paul (Rosiere) and All Saints (Chaumont) were merged into the present three-site parish.

Worship Sites
The Catholic Community of Cape Vincent, Rosiere and Chaumont operates three worship sites. St. Vincent of Paul Church in Cape Vincent (1626 Kanady Street) is the historic 1858 limestone Gothic Revival church listed on the National Register of Historic Places. St. Vincent de Paul Church in Rosiere (31399 County Route 4) serves the original farming community founded by the French settlers. All Saints Church in Chaumont (27420 Madison Street) serves the village of Chaumont. The Cape Vincent church is closed from November through May except for Christmas Eve, with the anticipated Mass relocated during those months.

Mass and Sacraments
Weekend Masses are celebrated at the three worship sites in English. Confessions are heard a half hour before every Mass and by appointment. Baptism is arranged by calling the pastor; marriage requires at least six months of advance notice and a meeting with the pastor. OCIA (Order of Christian Initiation for Adults) is directed by Deacon Patrick Donahue for adults preparing to enter the Catholic Church.

Faith Formation & Religious Education
Religious education is offered across the three communities. Melissa Koffs coordinates the Chaumont program; Michael Nebbia directs the Cape Vincent program. Verna Docteur serves as Religious Education Resource Person and Commissioned Lay Minister. Sharon Nebbia leads Youth Ministry for older youth. OCIA (Order of Christian Initiation for Adults), directed by Deacon Patrick Donahue, prepares adults for full initiation into the Catholic Church.

The parish is served by Commissioned Lay Ministers, an active Altar and Rosary Society at both Cape Vincent and Chaumont, and the Knights of Columbus Council LeRay de Chaumont #2148 (Grand Knight Kevin Thompson). Building and Grounds is staffed at each worship site. The parish also maintains a social outreach program recycling cans and bottles from the back hall to fund charitable activities in the community.

Devotions and Community Prayer
Beyond the Mass schedule, the parish gathers for a Community Rosary and for periodic Holy Hours. A Bible Study and Holy Hour series is led by seminarian Deacon Kevin McCullouch on Monday evenings at 6:30 pm at the Cape Vincent church and parish hall, alternating between a Holy Hour one week and a Bible study the next. The bulletin also references an 'Hour of Power' devotion.
