About the Parish

St. Victor Catholic Church is a territorial parish of the Roman Catholic Diocese of San Jose, located at 3108 Sierra Road in the Berryessa neighborhood of San Jose. The parish serves a multigenerational community with six English-language Sunday Masses, a daily 8:00 AM weekday Mass, a vibrant faith-formation program for children through Confirmation, a Knights of Columbus Council 4112-affiliated Food Pantry, and the UnI Lord Youth & Young Adult ministry. Its mission echoes the parish's long-running Catechetical Ministry statement: 'a share in Jesus' own mission of proclaiming the Reign of God' through instruction, worship, community, and service.

Parish History

St. Victor was founded in 1961 by Father James Prendeville, with territory taken from St. Patrick, St. John Vianney, and St. John the Baptist (Milpitas). The first Mass was celebrated on October 29, 1961 — the Feast of Christ the King — in an old Sunseri-family farmhouse. Growth brought a parish hall (groundbroken 1978, blessed 1979), then catastrophe on April 10, 1980, when arson destroyed the original church and a $22,000 organ. The community rebuilt in Spanish Mission style within two years and celebrated Bishop Pierre DuMaine's dedication on September 9, 1982.

Mass and Service Schedule

St. Victor's service schedule centers on six Sunday Masses (7:00, 8:00, 9:15, 10:45, 12:15, and 5:00 PM September–June) plus the Saturday 5:00 PM Vigil. Daily Mass is celebrated Monday through Saturday at 8:00 AM. The parish maintains weekly devotions — the Mother of Perpetual Help Novena on Wednesdays and the Precious Blood of Christ Novena on Fridays, both after the 8:00 AM Mass and Rosary — as well as First Friday Exposition and Benediction.

Parish Staff and Clergy

The parish is led by Father John Offor (Pastor), who was installed on July 26, 2025 in a Mass with Bishop Oscar Cantú. He is assisted by two Parochial Vicars, Father Allen Navarro and Father Lieu Vu, and Deacon Carl Bugarin. A full administrative, catechetical, facilities, and sacristan staff supports daily parish operations.

Faith Formation and Religious Education (Catechetical Ministry)

St. Victor's Catechetical Ministry frames catechesis as a lifelong process through which 'faith becomes living, conscious, and active.' The ministry welcomes catechists and aides as volunteers and runs programs from Kindergarten through Confirmation II. A Children's Liturgy of the Word is offered during the 10:45 AM Sunday Mass for children in grades 1–3, who are dismissed before the first reading and return before the Creed.

Youth and Young Adult Ministry — UnI Lord

UnI Lord ('You and I, Lord') is the umbrella ministry for ages 13 to 18 (Youth Ministry) and ages 18 to 40 (Young Adult Ministry). It emphasizes relationship with the Lord through service, worship, and community, with both group and combined activities. The Youth Ministry is visible at the 5:00 PM Sunday Mass through the Youth & Young Adult Choir and as ushers.

St. Victor Catholic School

St. Victor Catholic School, located at 3150 Sierra Road, is an on-site pre-K through 8th-grade Catholic school partnering with parish families. The school's mission emphasizes parents as primary educators and develops the whole child — academic excellence, Gospel values, faith community, and service to others — in a nurturing, respectful environment. The parish added a southeast wing in June 1996 to provide more meeting rooms and classrooms.

Outreach and Charity

Outreach is a hallmark of St. Victor, with multiple ministries feeding the hungry and serving neighbors. The Parish Food Pantry is an approved member agency of Second Harvest Food Bank, distributing food and produce on designated Saturdays from 10:00 AM to noon in the back parking lot (Drive-In service only, no walk-ins). The pantry is led by the Knights of Columbus Council 4112. Other outreach includes adopting a family through St. Vincent de Paul, donating lunches to Loaves & Fishes, hosting a Coat Drive for Sacred Heart Community Service, and Communion to the Sick.
