History of St. Therese of Lisieux Church

St. Therese of Lisieux was established on October 3, 1925, to serve the Catholics living in Homestead Park, a section of Munhall. The first Mass was celebrated in the Homestead Park Municipal Building on October 18, 1925. The church building was dedicated on January 25, 1926, with further dedications following on August 21, 1954, and June 18, 1961, reflecting additions to the structure. A Casavant organ was installed in the church, and in October 2014 the parish's historic bell was restored. In 2020, St. Therese of Lisieux became the central church of the newly formed Parish of St. Thomas the Apostle.

Ministries and Parish Groups

Parishioners can become involved in a number of lay ministries and faith-formation groups. Eucharistic Ministers assist clergy with the distribution of Holy Communion at Masses; training is provided. A Shut-In Ministry reaches out to homebound parishioners and the residents of Locust Grove (located behind Resurrection Church), with dismissal from the 9:00 AM Mass at Resurrection. The Men's Fellowship Group meets the second Saturday of each month in the Rectory Meeting Room at St. Therese, focusing on men's faith growth through audio presentations and discussion. Students of Service (SOS) is another parish ministry.
