History of Resurrection Church
The Church of the Resurrection was established in 1936 as a parish for Catholic families in the Steel Valley along the Monongahela River, where the mills drew generations of workers to West Mifflin and surrounding communities. The church was dedicated on November 11, 1938 and rededicated on April 11, 1965 according to the GCatholic record. Through the late 20th century the parish sustained sacramental and community life for the Greensprings/Church Street neighborhood of West Mifflin. In the early 21st century, declining Mass attendance and a shrinking pool of priests in the Diocese of Pittsburgh led Bishop David Zubik to launch a diocesan-wide strategic planning process called 'On Mission for The Church Alive!' on April 12, 2015. As part of that process, Resurrection was eventually grouped with the seven other Steel Valley parishes under shared clergy and a joint bulletin, and on July 1, 2020 was formally merged into the new St. Thomas the Apostle Parish. Resurrection Church continues to operate as one of the eight worship sites of the merged parish.

The Steel Valley Catholic Community Merger
The Steel Valley Catholic Community is the name given by the parish to its grouping of eight churches merged into one parish on July 1, 2020. The merger was part of Bishop David Zubik's On Mission for The Church Alive! initiative and reduced the Diocese of Pittsburgh's number of parishes from 152 to 106. Ministries and Outreach

Sacraments and Devotions
