St. Thomas More Catholic Church is a parish of the Diocese of Corpus Christi located at 2045 18th Street in Corpus Christi, Texas. Faith Formation & Religious Education

The parish's faith formation program is organized around the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd, a Montessori-based approach for children PreK3 through 5th grade, held in the parish Atrium and two houses on Glendale Street. Older children grades 1 through 11 follow the Rite of Christian Initiation for Children (RCIC), and Sacramental Preparation for First Reconciliation and First Communion is woven into the same atrium model. All children experience hands-on presentations and are encouraged to meditate on key Bible verses with their parents in preparation for the sacraments.

Confirmation Preparation

Confirmation is a two-year program open to 9th–12th graders. Confirmation I & II classes meet on Monday evenings from 6:00–7:00 p.m. (some pages cite 6:00–7:30 p.m. for the Confirmation class block), and Confirmation students are also expected to attend Sunday Youth Group (6:00–8:00 p.m.). Students receive the sacrament in the spring of their second year after meeting diocesan requirements and are confirmed by the Bishop.

Youth Ministry (MSYG & HSYG)

St. Thomas More offers a parish-wide Youth Ministry for grades 6–12 that brings middle and high school teens together for catechesis, discussion in the Catholic faith, fellowship, fun, worship, and service. The Middle School Youth Group (MSYG), High School Youth Group (HSYG), and Confirmation preparation all meet together on Sunday evenings from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Activities include trips, retreats, community service projects, faith lessons, and games. Registration for Confirmation, HSYG, and MSYG for 2025–2026 is open online.

OCIA — Becoming Catholic (Adults)

The parish's Order of Christian Initiation of Adults (OCIA), coordinated by Erin Morales-Rodriguez, prepares adult candidates to receive the sacraments of initiation (Baptism, Confirmation, and Holy Eucharist). The parish invites anyone interested in attending to contact the church office.

Music Ministry

The Music Ministry at St. Thomas More, directed by Music Minister Nathan Skrobarczyk, leads sung worship primarily at the 11:00 a.m. Sunday Mass. Singers are invited to join the choir as their schedule allows. The parish also books music for weddings, quinceañeras, and funerals and recommends contacting the music minister at least six months before the date to secure availability.

Parish Ministries & Volunteer Opportunities

Beyond faith formation and youth ministry, St. Thomas More maintains a wide range of liturgical and service ministries. Adult parishioners serve as Altar Servers (children grade 3+ may also serve), Lectors, Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist, and Homebound Ministers who bring Communion to those unable to attend Mass. There is also a Rosary and Novena ministry that prays daily for parishioners, the sick and homebound, and anyone in need of prayer, plus a Homeless Ministry / 'Feed the Homeless' effort and a Flowers & Grounds team that beautifies the parish property.

Sacrament of Marriage

St. Thomas More prepares engaged couples for the Sacrament of Marriage in line with diocesan guidelines. Couples meet with the pastor at least six months in advance to schedule the wedding and begin preparation; a recent baptismal certificate is required for the Catholic party, and FOCCUS, a Pre-Cana Conference, and either an Engaged Encounter Weekend or a parish Sponsor Couple are all part of the process. Wedding/Quinceañera Coordinator Lisa Godinez helps couples walk through these requirements.
