History
Two missions were established along the lower Colorado River in 1780: La Purisima Concepcion de Maria Santisima and San Pedro y San Pablo. Both were short-lived, destroyed in 1781. The site later became a U.S. military outpost and was revived as an active mission in 1919. The current St. Thomas Indian Mission church was built in 1922 and dedicated in 1923, standing just a few yards northwest of the original 1780 mission site.
