Parish History
St. Therese of Lisieux Parish was founded in 1949 in Lansing to serve the Catholic faithful on the city's north side. In recent years it has gained a reputation well beyond Michigan as one of only a handful of locations in the world — and likely the only parish — to hold first-class relics of Saints Louis and Zélie Martin, the recently canonized parents of the parish's patroness.

The Martin Relic Shrine
The parish is the home of a unique shrine containing first-class relics of St. Thérèse of Lisieux along with her canonized parents, Saints Louis and Zélie Martin. The relics were obtained through the efforts of pastor Father John Fain, with the support of Bishop Earl Boyea and the chancellor of the Diocese of Lansing, Michael Andrews, who contacted the Carmelite order in Rome. Saints Louis and Zélie were canonized by Pope Francis on October 18, 2015 — the first married couple to be canonized together in the Church's history — making first-class relics of them extraordinarily rare. The relics are encased in a display case alongside a relic of St. Thérèse and a print of the whole Martin family, and can be removed on request for the faithful to touch.
