About St. Teresa of Calcutta Parish

St. Teresa of Calcutta Parish is a Roman Catholic community in the Archdiocese of Milwaukee serving the Monches and North Lake area of Waukesha County, Wisconsin. It is a merged parish of two former country congregations — St. John the Baptist in Monches (founded 1843) and St. Clare in North Lake (founded 1916) — that came together on June 25, 2006. The parish worships at two intimate historic sites and is led by Sacramental Priests Fr. Domenic Roscioli and Fr. Joe Hornacek, with Deacon Allen Olson serving as Parish Director. The community describes itself as prayerful, authentic in praise, and dedicated to outreach, keeping things 'honest and true' in the spirit of its country church beginnings.

History of the Parish

The parish's story begins with two rural congregations that grew up in the Lake Country region of Waukesha County. St. John the Baptist in Monches was established in 1843 after Fr. Martin Kundig celebrated the first Mass in William McGrath's home in 1842; the present English Gothic stone church, built of Lannon stone by the Eschweiler & Eschweiler firm, was begun in 1917 under Rev. Wm. Mahoney and consecrated by Archbishop Messmer in April 1920. St. Clare in North Lake was incorporated in 1916, and Fr. Louis N. Zirbes broke ground with parishioners for its Tudor Gothic Lannon-stone church on October 3, 1917; Archbishop Messmer dedicated it on April 30, 1919. After years of sharing ministries and a pastor, the two parishes formally merged on June 25, 2006 as Blessed Teresa of Calcutta Parish, taking the present name in September 2016 following Mother Teresa's canonization.

Faith Formation & Religious Education

The Formation & Discipleship team walks with parishioners from preschool through Confirmation. The parish's stated goal is to promote the growth of each student's sacred faith and to nurture a personal relationship with God, an awareness of God in self and others, appreciation of the Sacraments and the True Presence of Christ in the Eucharist, love of God's Word, formation of conscience, and a sense of Catholic community that spreads the message 'Jesus lives' through service. Sacraments

The parish regularly celebrates all seven sacraments except Holy Orders, and assists families with funeral liturgies (which incorporate the Eucharistic Sacrifice). Baptism is arranged through Deacon Allen and may be celebrated at either the North Lake or Monches church during or after Mass. First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion are typically received in 2nd grade using the Go Seek Find curriculum, while Confirmation is celebrated in 11th grade using the Purpose curriculum, which asks candidates 'Why believe in God?', 'Why trust Jesus?', and 'Why be a part of the Church?'

Parish Teams and Ministries

Parish life is organized into five working teams that meet regularly and invite parishioners to join based on their gifts. The Liturgy & Worship Team prepares Mass, Eucharistic Adoration, and prayer services and supports liturgical ministers. The Formation & Discipleship Team guides educational and spiritual formation at every stage of life. The Parish Life Team coordinates social events such as After-Mass fellowship, Wine Tasting, Trivia Night, and the annual Feast Day celebration. The Christian Mission Team focuses on service to the poor, sick, unborn, destitute, elderly, and orphaned. The Buildings & Grounds Team oversees maintenance, capital improvements, and cemetery grounds, with several workdays each year.

Music and Liturgy

Music and liturgy at St. Teresa of Calcutta are led by Lauren Braun (Director of Music) and Teri Moseler (Director of Liturgy and Engagement), working with the Liturgy & Worship Team. The parish invites parishioners to serve as liturgical ministers and to participate in the music program; the worship environment, devotional resources, and ministerial scheduling are coordinated through the team's monthly meetings.

Accessibility, Allergies, and Hearing

The parish takes practical steps to welcome all worshippers. The North Lake worship space, the Gathering Space, and the restrooms are wheelchair accessible, with handicap parking near the eastern entrance and a ramp into the sanctuary for those who want to participate in ministry during Mass. Special headphones linked to the sound system are kept in the sacristy and can be picked up before Mass or any church event. Low-gluten hosts (.001 or 37 micrograms) are available at both North Lake and Monches for those with wheat-related allergies or intolerances; communicants should step into the priest's Communion line and signal 'gluten free' so the priest can offer the host directly from a separate plate.
