History of St. Rose Church
Mass was first said in Lummis Hall — the village's town hall — during the Civil War era. In 1876 Sodus Point was listed as a mission station out of St. Michael's in Lyons. In 1885 Rose and Georgette Lummis deeded the hall to the Diocese of Rochester, and Bishop McQuaid blessed it as St. Rose Church in 1886. The building was incorporated under that name in December 1887; modest enlargement followed in 1906–1908, but the main body of the hall has changed little since. In 1922 St. Rose was made a summer chapel of the Church of the Epiphany in Sodus; during the Depression both were reassigned to St. Mary's of the Lake in Ontario. The parish marked its centennial in 1985, and in 1992 parishioners voted to consolidate the Saturday Vigil Mass at the Church of the Epiphany.

Patroness: St. Rose of Lima
The chapel honors St. Rose of Lima (Isabel de Flores y del Oliva, 1586–1617), a Dominican tertiary who entered religious life at 20, devoted herself to prayer and the Eucharist, served the poor of Peru, and at her early death became the first person born in the Americas to be canonized by a Pope. The choice was a personal one: the chapel's namesake, Rose Lummis, converted to Catholicism in the early 1860s and was known across the U.S. and Canada for her generosity to the Church and her lifelong care for the poor.

Faith Formation & Youth Ministry
Faith formation across St. Maximilian Kolbe Parish is coordinated by Catechetical Leader Corey Ginett, who also serves as Youth Minister for the joint cluster with St. Katharine Drexel. Programs are offered on a Sunday-morning weekly model for K-5, with separate middle-school and high-school youth groups meeting on weeknights and Sundays.
