History of the Parish
St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church was established in 1909 in Charlotte, a town laid out the following year on former Tobey Ranch land. From the beginning the community was served by Claretian Fathers traveling from San Antonio. A new church dedicated in honor of the Blessed Virgin Mary was completed on July 25, 1925, and subsequent improvements were made to the parish plant in 1944 and again in 1972. The parish retains its historic role as a center of Catholic life in rural South Texas.
