History of the Parish
St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church was established in 1950 to serve East McKeesport, with the present church building dedicated on August 19, 1972. In 2015 Bishop David Zubik launched 'On Mission for The Church Alive!' to address declining Mass attendance and a shrinking priestly workforce across the Diocese of Pittsburgh; the consultation process eventually led to St. Robert Bellarmine being grouped (in 2018) with St. Angela Merici in White Oak and St. Patrick and Corpus Christi in McKeesport, all served by one clergy team. Those four parishes were formally merged on January 6, 2020 to form Mary, Mother of God Parish.
Consolidation and the Resource Task Force (2021–2023)
In spring 2021 the parish created a Resource Task Force to study sustainable building and structural needs. After that study, beginning the weekend of January 14–15, 2023, only St. Patrick and St. Angela Merici continued to be used for the regular Sunday schedule; Corpus Christi and St. Robert Bellarmine were retained for baptisms, weddings, funerals, and each church's feast day and dedication anniversary.
Clergy Team
Mary, Mother of God Parish is served by a single clergy team shared across all four worship sites. The pastor and parochial vicar, together with a parish chaplain and a permanent deacon, provide Mass, the sacraments, and pastoral care for the people of White Oak, McKeesport, Versailles, and East McKeesport.
