About the Patron, St. Pius X

The mission is named for Pope St. Pius X (Giuseppe Melchiorre Sarto, 1835–1914), who served as pope from 1903 until his death in 1914 and was canonized in 1954. He is remembered for his encouragement of frequent (and even daily) reception of Holy Communion, his commissioning of the 1917 codification of canon law, and his reforms of sacred music. His liturgical feast day is celebrated on August 21.
