History of the Parish
St. Pius X was created in 1962 as the Bowie area grew rapidly following the 1957 sale of the Belair estate for suburban development. Sacred Heart Church in Bowie served as the mission parish for St. Pius X from 1962 to 1965. The parish marked its Golden (50th) Anniversary in 2012, calling on parishioners to contribute photos, documents, written accounts, and oral histories.

Weekend Masses are celebrated Saturday evening at 5:30 PM (Vigil) and Sunday morning at 9:30 AM and 11:30 AM, all in English. Daily Masses are celebrated Wednesday and Thursday at 9:00 AM, with a Tuesday 9:00 AM Communion Service. The Sacrament of Reconciliation is offered Saturday afternoons from 4:45 PM to 5:15 PM (before the Vigil Mass). All weekend and daily Masses are available via the parish's livestream, SPX Online.

Becoming Catholic & Adult Discipleship
Adults interested in the Catholic faith or in completing their initiation are welcomed through the parish's Becoming Catholic program — an open, no-strings-attached process that welcomes people of all faith backgrounds. Adults preparing for First Reconciliation are prepared for full initiation through this program. Adult Confirmation is also offered for baptized Catholics who have received First Eucharist but have not yet been confirmed. The Adult Discipleship Coordinator, Jen Mayer, leads ongoing formation, including the small-group series 'Do It Anyway' and the Eucharistic Revival series 'Do What in Memory of Me.'

Children's Faith Formation & Sacramental Prep
St. Pius X offers a complete Sacramental Prep Program for children regardless of which school they attend. First Reconciliation is traditionally prepared in 2nd grade. The parish also runs KidMin, a K-5 religious education program, and SLAM (Children's Liturgy of the Word) which is offered at all three weekend Masses — children in K-5 are dismissed from the sanctuary at the beginning of Mass and return during the Preparation of the Gifts. ChildCare for toddlers through PreK is offered during the Sunday 9:30 AM and 11:30 AM Masses.

Youth & Student Ministry
The parish's student ministries form young people in grades 6-12. Middle School Ministry (MSM) meets on Tuesdays from 7:00-8:15 PM in the Faith Center for grades 6-8, combining activities, large-group teaching, and small-group discussion. High School Ministry (HSM) serves grades 9-12 through monthly Sunday afternoon gatherings. Confirmation Prep is a two-year process — typically 7th and 8th grade — beginning with regular faith formation (MSM or Catholic-school religious education) and adding monthly Saturday-evening Confirmation Prep sessions that begin with the 5:30 PM Mass, dinner, and formation ending at 8:00 PM.

Marriage, Funerals & Pastoral Care
Couples contemplating marriage should contact the Pastor at least six months in advance; Marriage Preparation is conducted by a priest to help couples understand the Church's vision of marriage and build tools for married life. The parish also assists families with funeral rites when a member dies, including pre-planning when death is imminent — parishioners are asked to contact the Pastor, Fr. Mike (extension 14), for assistance.
