History of St. Pius X

St. Pius X was founded on Palm Sunday 1953, when 95 families gathered for the first parish Mass in the old Grand Theater on Chicago Drive in Grandville. As the community outgrew its temporary home, Father John McDuffee broke ground on the current Wilson Avenue site on January 1, 1956. From those 95 founding families the parish has grown to more than 900 households, continually adding ministries for worship, faith formation, outreach, and community life. The parish belongs to the Diocese of Grand Rapids and sits within the Grand Rapids South Deanery in Kent County.

Worship Schedule

St. Pius X offers a steady weekly schedule of Masses, the Sacrament of Reconciliation, and Eucharistic Adoration, with live-streamed Masses linked from the parish Facebook page. Weekday Masses are celebrated Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday at 9:00 AM, and Thursday at 5:30 PM. The Lord's Day is observed with a Saturday Vigil Mass at 5:30 PM and Sunday Masses at 8:30 AM and 10:30 AM.

Faith Formation & Religious Education

The Formation Office at St. Pius X supports lifelong faith learning for parishioners of every age. Faith formation classes run from Kindergarten through 12th grade, led by Director of Faith Formation Glenda Trytko and Religious Education Coordinator Justin Wiltse. The parish believes 'learning is a lifelong process of deepening our faith' and offers a home-school formation track as well.

Youth Ministry

Coordinator of Youth Ministry Meghan Schaut oversees the middle-school and high-school programs. EDGE serves 7th and 8th graders and meets Sundays from 12:00 to 2:00 PM, while SNL (Sunday Night Live) brings together high schoolers in grades 9–12 on Sunday evenings from 6:30 to 8:30 PM. A Youth Choir for 3rd through 12th graders is led by Music Director Meghan Schaut together with singer and music educator Jamie Purkovic.

Music Ministry

Music at St. Pius X is coordinated by Music Coordinator EmmaLee Miklosovic. The Youth Choir, for students in 3rd through 12th grade, is led by Music Director Meghan Schaut with singer/music educator Jamie Purkovic, providing an opportunity for younger parishioners to serve the liturgy through music.

Outreach & Pastoral Care

The Outreach Commission coordinates the parish's ministries of pastoral care, social services, peace and justice, and evangelization, reaching both parishioners and the wider Grandville community. The Parish Pastoral Council operates by consensus to guide St. Pius X in building a Christ-centered Christian community, working in conjunction with the pastor and parish staff.
