St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church is a parish of the Diocese of Fort Worth serving nearly 4,000 families in Flower Mound, Lewisville, Highland Village, Lantana, and surrounding communities in one of the fastest-growing areas of Texas. Its roots go back to 1967, when the first Mass for local Catholics was celebrated in Lewisville; the parish was formally established in 1972 with Fr. Joseph Scantlin as its first pastor. After outgrowing two earlier homes — a 1971 metal building on Jones Street and a 1977 church at FM 1171 and Kirkpatrick Lane (later expanded with an arena-style worship space in 1997) — the parish completed Phase I of a new 40-acre wooded-hilltop campus at 5201 Cross Timbers Road in 2022, with Phase II (a multi-purpose parish life center and expanded parking) currently in fundraising and design under the banner 'Forward in Faith.'

It offers daily and weekend Mass in English, weekly Reconciliation, regular Eucharistic Adoration (including a monthly Adoration for Life), a complete faith-formation track from kindergarten through Confirmation, an active youth ministry, Small Communities of Faith (SCOFs) for adult discipleship, RCIA for adults seeking full communion, and ministry groups for college-aged young adults and young married couples. With a deep staff, a large music and liturgical program, and a 'Forward in Faith' capital campaign building Phase II of the campus, it is a parish oriented toward both long-standing members and newcomers arriving in one of the fastest-growing parts of North Texas.

History of St. Philip the Apostle
The community that became St. Philip the Apostle traces its origins to November 19, 1967, when the first Mass was celebrated in Lewisville for 120 local Catholics. After years of meeting in borrowed schools and churches and gathering for annual picnics, parishioners built a pre-fabricated metal building on Jones Street in 1971 as their first home. Fr. Joseph Scantlin was appointed the parish's first pastor in 1972. A second church and parish hall were completed in 1977 at FM 1171 and Kirkpatrick Lane; by 1986 the parish had more than 1,400 families. An arena-style church was added to the same five-acre property in 1997. After outgrowing that campus, Bishop Michael Olson directed Fr. Raymond McDaniel in 2014 to plan a new parish; the current campus opened in 2022 and the parish marked its 50th anniversary that same year.

The parish is served by a Pastor, a Parochial Vicar, and four Deacons, supported by a large lay staff across formation, music, communications, stewardship, and operations. Fr. Raymond McDaniel also serves as Dean of the Northeast Deanery and a member of the College of Consultors of the Diocese of Fort Worth. Parochial Vicar Msgr. Francis Boakye Tawiah is one of three priests from the Archdiocese of Kumasi, Ghana, who serve as missionaries in the diocese.

Faith Formation & Religious Education
The parish runs a full faith-formation track for children, youth, and adults. Elementary Formation covers K–5 with in-class sessions on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, plus home-study and online options. Sacramental preparation for First Penance and First Communion happens in 2nd grade; 3rd–5th grade formation follows a three-year cycle on Salvation History, Prayer & Sacraments, and the Life of Christ. Middle-school and high-school youth ministry includes Bible Study and Discipleship Groups, with a separate Confirmation track.

Adult Faith, RCIA & Small Communities
Adults seeking full communion with the Catholic Church join RCIA classes, which meet in the evenings with prayer, food, discussion, and lesson. St. Philip's also runs Small Communities of Faith (SCOFs) — adult discipleship small groups that meet regularly at the parish or offsite for fellowship and faith-sharing. Several SCOFs are tailored for young married couples and young married families; new groups can be started with staff help.

College & Young Adult Ministry
The College/Young Adults group serves 18–35 year-olds (college students, local singles, young adults) with regular monthly events that mix formation, prayer, service, and fellowship. Young married couples are referred to dedicated small groups.

St. Philip's celebrates all seven Catholic sacraments, with dedicated coordinators for marriage, baptism, annulments, and anointing. Parents are encouraged to begin sacramental preparation well in advance, especially for marriage (9–12 months lead time).

Beyond Sunday Mass, the parish supports weekday devotions, a Rosary for Life on First Saturdays, Thursday-morning prayers and devotions during Adoration, and an annual Mass of Remembrance on All Souls' Day.
