Church History

The parish traces its roots to St. John the Baptist Mission in Thomaston (1958) and St. Ann Mission in Barnesville (1961). Both missions were under the care of Redemptorist priests and later became independent parishes. In 2001, Fr. Karl Duggan served St. John the Baptist’s in Thomaston and St. Ann’s in Barnesville. The current St. Peter the Rock parish was formed from these missions, with Fr. Thomas Hennessy serving as pastor in Thomaston from 1999 to 2001. The church building was dedicated in 1981 for St. Ann’s and later became part of the St. Peter the Rock parish.
