St. Peter the Apostle is a historic Catholic parish in New Castle, Delaware, rooted in one of the oldest Catholic communities in the state. The parish traces its beginnings to 1804, when Father Patrick Kenny celebrated the first Mass in New Castle, and its current site at Union and Harmony Streets was purchased in 1806. Today it shares a multi-campus parish life with Holy Spirit Church under the Diocese of Wilmington. The community is led by Pastor Rev. Timothy M. Nolan and offers daily and Sunday Masses, Eucharistic adoration, and a variety of ministries.

History

St. Peter's of New Castle traces its origins to Catholic settlers from Maryland and the missionary work of Father Patrick Kenny, who celebrated the first Mass in New Castle in 1804. In 1806 the trustees purchased the current site at Union and Harmony Streets. A detailed parish history, 'St. Peter's of New Castle 1804-1984,' was written by Patricia Austin DiSabatino.
