Parish History
The parish was canonically established on June 15, 1962, and Monsignor Edwin Bobe was appointed founding pastor. The first church seated 300; the first Mass was celebrated December 16, 1962. A parish dedication is recorded in 1981. By the mid-1980s the parish's growth in south Jefferson and north Shelby counties led Bishop Joseph Vath to erect a new parish — eventually named Prince of Peace — on December 3, 1984; St. Peter generously shared its facilities, hosted the new community's first meetings and first Mass in 1985, and gave many of its members to the new parish.
Faith Formation & Religious Education
St. Peter's offers formation for every age and stage: a Parish School of Religion for K–10th grade, sacramental preparation for First Reconciliation, First Communion and Confirmation (each a two-year program), Vacation Bible School in the summer, Adult Education and Bible Study groups meeting several times a week, and OCIA (Order of Christian Initiation of Adults) for those inquiring about the Catholic Faith or seeking full communion with the Church.
Parish School of Religion
The catechetical program teaches students in Kindergarten through 10th grade more about the Catholic Faith. Sacramental preparation classes for First Communion and Confirmation are two-year programs. Registration is in the summer months and classes fill up early.

OCIA (Order of Christian Initiation of Adults)
OCIA (formerly RCIA) is the process by which adults and children of catechetical age (7+) who are not yet Catholic, or who are Catholic but have not received all their sacraments, are welcomed into full communion with the Catholic Church. Classes begin in the Fall.
