History
St. Peter's was established in 1910 as a combined church-and-school parish in Waverly. The Ursuline Sisters provided teachers, and in 1918 a high school was added. The original buildings were destroyed by fire in 1923 and rebuilt in 1924, with the church on the ground floor and the school beneath. The high school closed in 1947. After nearby St. Vincent Academy closed in 1967, the St. Peter grade school moved to its grounds, then itself closed in 1973 — ending more than six decades of Catholic education at the parish.

Catholic Life in Union County
