History of St. Peter Parish
St. Peter Catholic Church was established in 1986 in southeast Lincoln to serve a growing Catholic population in the Diocese of Lincoln. After early planning, a capital campaign opened in November 1990 with a $1.9 million first-phase budget for the school. The school opened on September 16, 1991, with 118 preschoolers through third-graders and four teachers; the school building was formally dedicated on December 15, 1991, with Sr. Anne Joelle, C.K. as the first principal. Phase 2 added the church and an expanded classroom wing beginning November 1992; the school wing and the new church were completed by August 1995. Sr. Mary Michael, C.K. became principal in May 1993, leading the school during the construction years. With the building now mature and the parish growing, the parish partnered with Conrad Schmitt Studios in 2021–2024 to renovate the sanctuary interior: a new altar and reredos, a raised ADA-compliant sanctuary, twelve stained-glass windows narrating the life of St. Peter, twenty-four murals of Old Testament scenes and the apostles, and a starry ceiling. Bishop James Conley rededicated the church on March 23, 2024, with the new altar consecrated, before some 550 people.

Architecture & Renovation
St. Peter's church is a Post-Modern structure (built 1991) whose decorative scheme draws from the Basilica of Sant'Apollinare in Ravenna, Italy (6th century). The Holy Spirit window above the sanctuary and the marble floors are deliberate nods to St. Peter's Basilica in Rome. The 2022–2024 interior renovation retained the structure but introduced new liturgical furnishings hand-crafted in Socuéllamos, Spain, marble from Spain, stained-glass glass from Munich, and decoration designed and executed by Conrad Schmitt Studios of Wisconsin. Twenty-four murals and twelve narrative stained-glass windows — each accompanied by Bible studies written by Fr. Eric Clark — anchor the program. ADA accessibility was addressed with a new ramp and handrail up to the raised sanctuary. Infrastructure was also overhauled — new HVAC, boiler, fire alarm, repaved parking lots, new marquees, security cameras, and keyless entry.

Faith Formation & School
Faith formation at St. Peter is structured around 'The Clear Path of Discipleship' (Encounter → Restore → Follow → Go Forth). St. Peter Catholic School (Preschool through 8th grade) enrolled 254 students (37 in preschool) in 2025–26 with daily school Masses held in the church; religious education (CCD) for grades 1–8 adds another 105 students, and 20 active adult discipleship groups are meeting as of 2026. St. Peter Catholic School opened on September 16, 1991, for Preschool through Grade 3. Subsequent principals have been Sr. Mary Michael, C.K. (named May 24, 1993); Sr. Mary Alma (named May 2001); the return of Sr. Mary Michael (May 2010); and Mr. Curt Feilmeier (named May 2022).
