Parish History
St. Peter's Catholic Parish was established in 1925 in the then-suburb of Brookside, on a cornfield that soon became home to a thriving Catholic community, mostly of Irish descent. Founder James McKay gathered the founding families, and within four years they had built and opened a school (1929). The original church, school and convent were constructed of native limestone in a modified English Gothic style. In 1943, ground was broken for the present-day church at the corner of Meyer Boulevard and Holmes Road. The 1990s saw the addition of the "McKay Center" wing to the school — housing a gymnasium, offices, classrooms, a cafeteria, and basement — and in 2017 a major renovation modernized parish facilities while preserving the historic limestone exterior.

Pastoral Staff
St. Peter's is currently served by Fr. Nathan Rueb as Pastor and Fr. Ethan Osborn as Parochial Vicar. Fr. Rueb was appointed Pastor in 2025 while retaining his role as Vocation Director for the Diocese of Kansas City-St. Joseph; he was ordained to the priesthood on May 25, 2019, after studies at William Jewell College, St. Gregory the Great Seminary (Seward, NE), and the Pontifical North American College / Pontifical University of the Holy Cross in Rome. Fr. Osborn, ordained May 24, 2025, also serves as Assistant Vocation Director; he grew up in Maysville, Missouri, and holds a doctorate in pharmacy from UMKC before entering seminary in 2018.

St. Peter's Parish School (K-8)
St. Peter's Parish School, a ministry of St. Peter's Catholic Parish, has been a faith-based anchor of the Brookside community since 1929. The school serves preschool through 8th grade, with an Early Childhood Learning Center (ECLC), and is rooted in the parish mission: 'to worship God, serve others, and proclaim the Word.' Daily religious instruction, regular K-8 Mass attendance, and sacramental preparation are integral to the curriculum. The school has a 25-year partnership with the FIRE Foundation for inclusive education and welcomes children of all denominations. Dr. Krista McGee serves as principal, with Kelsey Johnson as assistant principal.

Ministries & Outreach
St. Peter's offers a wide range of ministries and groups that invite parishioners to worship, serve, and grow together. Outreach to those in need is centered in the parish St. Vincent de Paul Society, which runs a food pantry, provides financial assistance to neighbors within parish boundaries (for food, rent, or utilities), and serves the homeless in the surrounding community with toiletries, clothing, blankets, food, and even car repairs. Adult faith formation happens through the Order of Christian Initiation for Adults (OCIA), and youth are served through the STP Youth Group, faith formation classes, and an annual Steubenville conference. Knights of Columbus, Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion, Ministers to the Homebound, Eucharistic Adorers, the New Parishioner Welcome Committee, a Music & Liturgy ministry, and Pastoral and School Boards round out parish life.

Sacraments
The parish celebrates all seven Catholic sacraments. Information about baptisms, First Communion and Confirmation preparation, marriage preparation, the Anointing of the Sick, and the OCIA process for adults seeking to enter the Church is available through the parish office. Confession is available 30 minutes before every Mass and during dedicated weekly time blocks.

Visit, Connect & Give
Parishioners and visitors are welcomed at Mass, through Confession times, at Tuesday Adoration, and at a variety of community events like the Corpus Christi procession and the Sacred Heart Enthronement. Those unable to attend Mass in person can join via the parish YouTube channel, StPetersKC. Online giving is available via the parish website, and the parish encourages recurring contributions especially during the summer travel months. The parish office is open Monday–Thursday 9 AM – 4 PM (summer hours) and resumes regular M–F hours in early August.
