St. Peter Parish, established in 1843, is the first and oldest Catholic parish on Louisiana's Northshore. Parish History
Established in 1843 by Fr. Victor Jouanneault at the request of Bishop Antoine Blanc, St. Peter is the first and oldest Catholic parish on Louisiana's Northshore. The original wooden church stood on the west bluff of the Bogue Falaya River. A second church and rectory at Rutland and Massachusetts Streets were built in 1892 under Fr. Joseph Koegerl. From 1916 to 1992 the parish was served by Benedictine priests from nearby St. Joseph Abbey, and the present (third) church was built in 1940 under Fr. Aemillian Egler, O.S.B. In 1992 Archbishop Schulte appointed Fr. William McGough — the first diocesan priest assigned to the parish in 76 years — who served for 17 years until Easter Sunday 2009.
A Parish for the Northshore Since 1843
The current church is the parish's third, built in 1940. Fr. McGough's pastorate (1992–2009) saw the founding of the Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration Chapel, which Pastor Brouillette has credited with nurturing seven priestly ordinations and three permanent diaconate ordinations from the parish since its establishment.

Physical Plant & Recent Expansion
In response to growth — particularly after Hurricane Katrina — the parish has undergone remarkable physical plant expansion: a perpetual adoration chapel, church renovations, an early childhood center, a school cafeteria, a middle school building, a rectory/administrative center, and a multi-purpose building. The original choir loft was renovated to house a new organ purchased with parishioner and private donations. The campus also now includes a youth house, a small meeting house, a large playground, and a soccer field with a field house under construction.

Clergy & Pastoral Staff
The parish is led by Very Rev. Daniel Brouillette, V.F., the 29th pastor, appointed by Archbishop Gregory Aymond effective July 1, 2022. Fr. Cuong Tran serves as Parochial Vicar. Father Brouillette grew up in the parish and was a childhood parishioner of his predecessor, the late Fr. William McGough.

St. Peter Catholic School
Founded in 1878 by three Benedictine Sisters, St. Peter School is the first parochial school in Covington. After closing for lack of funds in 1882, it reopened in 1890 at the request of Fr. Joseph Koegerl. The brick school building and cafeteria that still serve the campus today were built in 1955 during Fr. Stephen Mueller, O.S.B.'s pastorate. The school currently serves children from pre-kindergarten through seventh grade.

Faith Formation & Youth Ministry (TORCH CYO)
St. Peter offers faith formation for every age. High-school youth (Grades 8–12) are served by the TORCH CYO youth ministry program, which hosts retreats, fellowship, service projects, and a Code of Conduct to keep the community safe. A parish-wide roster of more than 70 ministries and apostolates gives parishioners many ways to live out their faith.
