It was formed on July 1, 2013, from the merger of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish of Chesaning and Saint Michael Parish of Oakley, bringing together more than 300 years of combined Catholic ministry in the area. The parish worships at the former Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church site at 404 South Wood Street, while the historic Saint Michael Church in Oakley remains available for occasional use, such as weddings and funerals of former parishioners. About St. Peter Parish
St. Peter Parish is a Roman Catholic community in Chesaning, Michigan, in the Diocese of Saginaw. It was created in 2013 from the merger of two long-standing local parishes and continues to serve the Catholic population of Chesaning and Oakley. Worship takes place at the former Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, with the Oakley church reserved for occasional use.

Parish History
The parish's story is really two stories woven together. Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish in Chesaning and Saint Michael Parish in Oakley each ministered for generations to Catholic families in this part of Saginaw County. By the early 2010s, demographic and economic challenges led the diocese to merge the two communities into a single new parish — St. Peter Parish — with Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church designated as the parish church and Saint Michael Church preserved for occasional use. The 103-year-old parish school at Chesaning had already closed in 2010.

Mass & Worship Schedule
St. Peter Parish follows a weekly rhythm of weekend, weekday, and holy-day Masses, supplemented by Eucharistic Adoration and the Sacrament of Reconciliation. The parish also shares ministry with St. Cyril Parish of Bannister, which is staffed together with St. Peter.

Faith Formation & Religious Education
Faith Formation at St. Peter Parish supports the catechetical and sacramental needs of parish children from kindergarten through eighth grade, with sacramental preparation for First Reconciliation, First Holy Communion, and Confirmation. The parish also maintains a separate Youth Ministry for older students in grades 7–12.

Youth Ministry
St. Peter Youth Ministry welcomes middle-school and high-school students (grades 7–12) and their friends to share faith, fun, and fellowship through group meetings, service projects, and prayer opportunities. Youth Group meets on Sundays after the 8:30 AM Mass in the parish hall and is designed to help young people grow as disciples of Jesus Christ.

Heritage of the Chesaning & Oakley Catholic Community
