History

St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church was built in 1962 as a mission of the Cathedral of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary. It began serving the growing Catholic community in the Mendenhall Valley and Auke Bay areas, initially held home masses by priests from the Cathedral.

  • The church became an independent parish on January 25, 1972, with Father Leo McCaffery as its first administrator.
  • By 1984, it had grown to 504 families and expanded services including a Spanish Mass.
