Welcome to St. Paul Catholic Church

St. Paul Catholic Church is a parish of the Archdiocese of Seattle, located in the Rainier Beach neighborhood of South Seattle. The parish community worships at 10001 57th Avenue South and is administered through an office at 4212 S Mead Street, which is shared with neighboring St. Edward parish as part of the South Seattle Parish Family.

Parish History

The parish was established in the early 1950s to serve the growing South Seattle population. The first buildings on the 10001 57th Avenue South campus were constructed in 1953–1954: a temporary church seating 480 plus an auditorium, with the temporary worship space designed to be later converted into a parish school gymnasium. The general contractors were Cawdrey and Vemo, Incorporated, the architect was Roger Gotteland, and Raymond C. Smith served as structural engineer. Carco, a subsidiary of Pacific Car and Foundry (now PACCAR), produced and installed 100 tons of structural steel for the initial phase. The parish school operated K–8 from 1954 until January 2021, when it transitioned to its current preschool-only St. Paul Early Learning Center.

  • Built 1953–1954
  • Architect: Roger Gotteland
  • Structural Engineer: Raymond C. Smith
  • General Contractors: Cawdrey and Vemo, Inc.
  • Steel fabricated by Carco (PACCAR subsidiary)
