History of St. Paul and Catholic Minden
Catholic faith has been present in Minden since the Civil War era. The first Mass was celebrated in 1866 in the home of P.W. Paul by Father Jean Pierre, who came up from Shreveport. By 1872 the community was large enough to dedicate a building — the structure that became St. Ann's Catholic Church — on Broadway. After three decades, St. Ann's was rebuilt in 1904, and that second building was destroyed in the great tornado of May 1, 1933. The parish rose again in brick at Broadway and Lee Street and took the name St. Paul's, in memory of the family that hosted that first Mass. In 1942 the parish was formally established at its present Fincher Road location.

Pastoral Leadership
St. Paul is currently served by Father Karl Jay Daigle as pastor of the Communities of the Holy Spirit, a five-parish grouping covering Minden, Springhill, Ringgold, Homer and the David Wade Correctional Center in Haynesville. Father Daigle was ordained a priest of the Diocese of Shreveport on May 31, 1997, after studies at the Pontifical College Josephinum in Columbus, Ohio, and Notre Dame Seminary in New Orleans. In summer 2026, seminarian Tristan Frisk will serve his Diaconate Internship at St. Paul together with St. Margaret in Homer and Blessed Sacrament in Ringgold.

St. Paul offers Sunday Mass in English at 11:00 am, preceded by Confessions from 10:45 to 11:00 am. A Spanish-language Mass is celebrated at 4:00 pm on the second Sunday of each month, extending the parish's reach to Spanish-speaking Catholics in north Louisiana. Communities of the Holy Spirit
Because the rural parishes of north Louisiana are too small to support a resident priest individually, the Diocese of Shreveport groups several churches under one pastor. St. Paul belongs to the Communities of the Holy Spirit alongside Sacred Heart in Springhill, Blessed Sacrament in Ringgold, St. Margaret's in Homer, and the Catholic prison ministry at David Wade Correctional Center in Haynesville. This arrangement gives Minden's Catholics a stable priestly presence while allowing the same pastor to shepherd the wider region.
