History of St. Patrick Parish
Founded May 24, 1911, by Bishop John Farley (Farrelly) of the Diocese of Cleveland to serve the booming south-side population of steel-mill Youngstown, St. Patrick's began as a mission of St. Columba's downtown. The first Mass was held in St. Columba's Church Hall, daily Mass in a rented six-room frame house, and a Spanish Mission-style church was dedicated on November 12, 1911. Construction of the permanent Gothic church began in the 1920s under Fr. Edward Mooney (later Cardinal Mooney of Detroit) and was dedicated June 8, 1926, by Fr. William Kane. After fire destroyed St. Columba's Cathedral in 1954, St. Patrick's was designated the diocesan pro-cathedral. The parish school, opened in 1914 by the Sisters of St. Joseph of Cleveland (later staffed by the Ursuline Sisters of Youngstown), closed in 1996 as enrollment declined.

Architecture & Sacred Art
The current church is a Gothic-style building constructed on the same site as the 1911 Spanish Mission-style church. The interior retains original oil paintings of the Stations of the Cross and a hand-carved wooden baldacchino enclosing the original altar; a cross with two praying women crowns the exterior. The 1926 building is recognized on local historic registers.

Past Pastor History
According to the Diocese of Youngstown and the local Vindicator coverage of the parish's 2026 centennial, St. Patrick's has been served by approximately 12 pastors since its founding in 1911. Fr. Charles Martin was the first resident pastor (May 1911 – October 1922). Fr. Edward Mooney helped select the south-side site and oversaw the Gothic building project before being named Cardinal Mooney of Detroit. Fr. William Kane dedicated the Gothic church in 1926 and later founded a youth camp at Lake Milton. The longest modern tenure belongs to Fr. Edward P. Noga, who led the parish for 34 years (1985–2019) through the decline of the local steel industry.

St. Patrick's offers one Sunday Mass a week at 11:00 AM and a Monday morning Mass at 8:30 AM combined with the Miraculous Medal Novena. Holy Day schedules are listed in the bulletin. The Sacrament of Penance is offered by appointment. As part of the Youngstown City Collaborative, weekend Mass is also celebrated at sister parishes — Saturday 4:00 PM at Christ the Good Shepherd in Campbell and Sunday 9:00 AM at St. Angela Merici — and weekday Masses rotate among the collaborative parishes (e.g., Tuesday and Friday at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel, Wednesday at St. Angela Merici, Thursday and Saturday at St. Edward, and 12:10 PM Monday–Friday at St. Columba).
