History of St. Patrick Parish
St. Patrick Catholic Church was founded in 1910 at 2007 N. Arkansas Avenue in Wichita's North End, established as a small frame church to serve the poor of the neighborhood. The parish and school take the name St. Patrick because Timothy Mahaney, the man who donated the tract of land, asked that it be dedicated to the patron saint of Ireland. From the start, the parish was multilingual and multicultural, becoming a spiritual home for Mexican immigrant families drawn to Wichita by jobs at the nearby packing houses, flour mills, and railroad yards.

- Served as the North End's parish for poor families, including Mexican immigrants
- By the 1930s, demographic tensions led to the founding of Our Lady of Perpetual Help (1932) nearby
- Today remains a vibrant bilingual parish with an attached Pre-K–8 school

School Heritage & Identity
In its early decades, Father McNeil — superintendent of diocesan schools — designated St. Patrick an "experimental" school, one of only about a dozen such schools in the country at the time. Although standardized textbooks were used, special supplementary materials and varied teaching techniques were emphasized. The inner-city location has always given the school a culturally rich and diverse population, with Hispanic students now making up the great majority of enrollment.
