Parish History & Identity
St. Patrick Parish was established in 1961 to serve Catholics moving out of downtown Springfield into the Sixteen Acres / East Springfield area. Its identity is built on three pillars: worship and sacramental life, family support and faith formation, and outreach and hospitality. Today it remains an active Catholic community serving local families with Masses, ministries, and outreach.

Pastoral Leadership & Staff
The parish is led by Fr. Chris Malatesta, Pastor, who also serves the diocese as Vicar General and Moderator of the Curia and brings more than 32 years of parish ministry. He is assisted by two deacons, parish staff, and lay leaders in faith formation, music, and administration.

Sacraments
St. Patrick Parish prepares and celebrates the seven Catholic sacraments. Baptisms take place most Sundays after the 10:30 AM Mass; families are asked to register with the parish and attend a brief preparation session. Reconciliation is offered Saturday afternoons and by appointment. First Eucharist is open to all baptized, prepared Catholics. Confirmation is celebrated with 9th-grade and older candidates as they make a personal profession of faith. Couples should contact the parish at least six months in advance for Marriage preparation. The Anointing of the Sick, Communion calls, and pastoral visits are available for the ill and homebound. Men discerning Holy Orders are invited to begin a conversation with the parish.

Faith Formation
The parish's Faith Formation program, directed by Judy Smith, supports the religious education of children and youth, including ongoing faith formation classes for children and Confirmation preparation for 9th-graders and older. Candidates are encouraged to grow in relationship with Jesus, learn Church teaching, and become active members of the parish community.

Lay Ministries & Get Involved
St. Patrick's is a community where parishioners of all ages can pray, serve, learn, and support one another. Liturgical ministries — Altar Servers, Eucharistic Ministers, Lectors, Ushers, Greeters, and Funeral Assistants — support the parish's worship. The Sick and Homebound Ministry keeps those unable to attend Mass connected through visits, prayer, and Communion. Parish life is enriched by the Women's Club (meeting the 2nd Wednesday of the month at 7:00 PM) and Men's Ministry, which gather for fellowship, service, and spiritual growth.

Outreach: Loaves and Fishes
St. Patrick Parish partners with the Open Pantry's Loaves and Fishes Program, serving a meal to an average of 120–140 hungry people each month. The parish purchases food from monetary donations earmarked for this ministry and prepares and serves the meal at the South Congregational Church dining hall (45 Maple St., Springfield) on the second Tuesday of every month.
