About St. Patrick's Church in Roxbury
St. Patrick's Church in Roxbury is a multi-cultural parish and has always been such since its founding in 1836. Today it is enriched by God's children from different backgrounds and cultures. The parish's mission is to preach, teach and witness to the good news of the mercy and love of God through which Jesus Christ offers life and salvation to all, committed to the well-being of every person in justice and charity. Together the community strives to proclaim, profess, and live the Faith in Christian charity, and to celebrate it in liturgy, prayer and service.
History of the Parish
St. Patrick's was established in 1836 to serve the Catholics of 'Roxbury, Brookline, and Brighton,' according to James Sullivan's One Hundred Years of Progress. Originally the church was situated a little south of the South End, on Northampton Street between Washington Street and Harrison Avenue. In the 1870s, as the Catholic population grew, parish boundaries shifted and a new church — the building still in use today — was built further south at the intersection of Dudley and Magazine Streets; construction of the new church began in 1873. The approximate location of the old church is about a 15-minute walk from the new church today. The parish's long history is also documented in baptism, marriage, and confirmation records preserved by the Archdiocese of Boston from 1836 to 1920, now searchable through American Ancestors.

Religious Education & Faith Formation
Faith formation across the collaborative is coordinated through the Tri-Parishes staff. Aida Rivera serves as the Director of Religious Education for Holy Family, and the collaborative also supports preparation for adults entering the Catholic Church through the RCIA / OCIA process. St. Patrick's also lists a Young Adult Ministry among its programs.
