Catholic life in the Moorcroft area dates to the early 1900s. Local Crook County records show that the Noonan family helped found a St. Patrick's Catholic Church in 1916; the building was dedicated on the third Sunday of April 1917 by Reverend John T. Nicholson, with the lot donated by the Lincoln Land Company and construction costs of roughly $800. In the diocesan structure today, St. Patrick Mission is served from St. Matthew Catholic Church in Gillette.
