About St. Patrick Mission
St. Patrick Mission is a Roman Catholic mission church in Twin Mountain, New Hampshire, part of Gate of Heaven Parish under the Diocese of Manchester. The mission serves the local Catholic community of the White Mountains' North Country along with travelers passing through Carroll. Its setting — a small stone church amid the mountain landscape — embodies the rural Catholic character of Coos County. The mission is supported by the parish office in Lancaster and shares pastoral and administrative life with four other worship sites in the Gate of Heaven family.
History of the Mission
Twin Mountain's Catholic community predates the formal organization of many surrounding parishes; 19th-century records show that St. Patrick's in Twin Mountain was once the only church building in a missionary parish stretching from Haverhill to Carroll. The present fieldstone church dates to the early 20th century, built in a style common to New England's mountain parishes, with stones gathered by parishioners from local fields and streams. In 2009, the Diocese of Manchester canonically established Gate of Heaven Parish, uniting the historic mission churches of the region — including St. Patrick — under one pastoral and administrative structure headquartered in Lancaster.
Parish Ministries and Community Life
As part of Gate of Heaven Parish, the Twin Mountain mission shares in a variety of parish-wide ministries that bring the wider Catholic community together. These include prayer, fellowship, outreach, and service groups that meet across the parish's five churches.
