History

St. Patrick Parish was established in 1896 by Fr. Charles Vanier, with its first church dedicated on December 27, 1896. The parish was incorporated in December 1896 with 60 families of various European backgrounds. The first resident pastor was Fr. Julius Looze in 1904. The parish school was founded in 1913, with a new school built in 1934 and later expanded in 1958. The school faced closure in 1972 but was saved by parishioner vote. The Franciscan Sisters staffed the school until 1987, when kindergarten was added and grade six was dropped in 1990.
