Our Parish History
The community's roots go back to 1943, when Msgr. William Teurlings of St. Genevieve Parish acquired property in the Crapaudville neighborhood to serve the working poor. After wartime Masses in a parishioner's home, Bishop Jules Jeanmard secured Catholic Extension Society grants; the church was built in 1946 (using some materials salvaged from St. Ignatius School in Grand Coteau) and blessed in January 1947. St. Patrick was formally erected as a parish on October 22, 1952, with Fr. Peter Blom as its first pastor. The parish grew steadily: a new four-room catechism building (now the offices) replaced the original quonset hut in 1962, and a larger parish hall was added in 1982 for ministries and a social apostolate to the surrounding neighborhood.

Parish Ministries & Outreach
In addition to the Mass and sacraments, St. Patrick hosts a range of formation, outreach, and recovery ministries. The parish's bulletin highlights adult faith formation (including an Old Testament bible study with Jennifer Sibille), a sign-language program, the Lay-Dominican-produced 'Studium to Studio' Catholic radio and YouTube program hosted by parishioners Jeff and Cheryl Drozda, and continued partnership with the Diocese of Lafayette's Office of Justice and Peace on prison ministry (including an Angola prison bus trip coordinated by Stephanie Bernard). Since the early 2000s the parish has also opened its facilities to 12-step recovery groups such as Alcoholics Anonymous.
