Parish Identity & Mission

St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church sits in northeast Colorado Springs at 6455 Brook Park Drive. The parish community describes itself as 'a Roman Catholic community united by faith in God, nourished by Jesus through the Eucharist, and empowered by the Holy Spirit,' seeking to meet the spiritual and physical needs of its members and neighbors through the sacraments, faith formation, stewardship, and fellowship. It is part of the Diocese of Colorado Springs.

History of St. Patrick Parish

St. Patrick was established in July 1981 as a parish of the Archdiocese of Denver, with Father John Slattery as founding pastor. The community first worshiped in a retail space on North Academy Boulevard while the permanent church was planned and built on Brook Park Drive, on land donated by local businesswoman Bonnie Fitzpatrick. In January 1984, St. Patrick became part of the newly created Diocese of Colorado Springs, and Father Slattery was named the diocese's first vicar general while continuing as pastor. The original church was dedicated in 1987, a Center for Formation and Mission followed in 2004, and a major sanctuary renovation was completed the same year. In July 2012, the parish burned the mortgage on the center under Father Larry Solan. The Bonzel Hall and kitchen were renovated in 2014.

Clergy & Pastoral Team

St. Patrick is currently served by a pastor, a parochial vicar, and a large team of permanent deacons, supported by lay staff in worship and liturgy, faith formation, stewardship, and facilities. As of July 1, 2025, Rev. Kirk Slattery was appointed pastor (returning to St. Patrick from St. Gabriel the Archangel Parish), with Rev. William Dwayer serving as parochial vicar and a number of permanent deacons assisting with liturgy and ministry.

Faith Formation & Religious Education

St. Patrick runs a complete faith-formation program for children, youth, and adults. Children in K-8 meet for Catechesis during the school year; high-schoolers in grades 9-12 take part in a combined Catechesis-Youth Group with their own schedule and gathering space. Adults seeking initiation into the Catholic Church journey through OCIA — the Order of the Catechumenate — coordinated by Chelsy Gomez, MA. The parish also supports homeschooling families through the Holy Family Catholic Homeschoolers group.

Worship, Music & Devotions

Patty Henderson directs the parish's Office of Worship and Liturgy. In addition to the regular Mass and Confession schedule, the parish offers weekday Eucharistic Adoration from 8:00 AM to 7:00 PM, evening Benediction, a weekly Holy Rosary led by the Knights of Columbus, and seasonal devotions such as the Novena and Prayer of Consecration to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. The parish music ministry rehearses weekly and is active at every Mass.

Parish Life, Fellowship & Outreach

St. Patrick maintains a wide range of parish groups that bring parishioners together in service, prayer, and fellowship. The Knights of Columbus (including a Ladies Auxiliary and Assembly 3049) is the most visible lay organization, sponsoring the Sunday Rosary, monthly breakfasts, and faith-formation support. Other groups include the St. Brigid Women's Group, the Grief Group, St. Stephen Ministry, the Respect Life Apostolate and its crafters, the Prayer Line / Prayer Chain, Office Angels, and the Green Thumbs gardening crew. Senior Game Day and ESL classes round out the parish's social offerings.

Sacraments

The parish prepares members for and celebrates all seven Catholic sacraments. Parents and grandparents attend a Baptismal Prep Class before a child's Baptism; First Communion and Confirmation are received through the Catechesis and Youth Ministry programs. Couples prepare for Marriage with the parish, the sick are visited for Anointing, and men discerning a priestly vocation are invited to speak with Father Kirk Slattery. Funerals are also facilitated through the parish office, and Reconciliation is offered three times a week.

The parish campus at 6455 Brook Park Drive includes the church sanctuary (dedicated 1987 and renovated 2004), the Center for Formation and Mission (2004), Bonzel Hall and the church kitchen (renovated 2014), and an adoration chapel. Office hours are Monday–Friday 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM, closed for lunch 12:00–1:00 PM and on weekends. The parish publishes a weather policy tied to D-11 and D-20 school districts.

Getting Involved — Stewardship

Stewardship at St. Patrick is coordinated by Andy Ziny and encompasses the parish's lay ministries, facilities, and finance functions. Newcomers are invited to sign up for 'Disciples of the Hammer,' a new parish ministry featured on the home page. The parish also runs an annual diocesan Appeal campaign and stays in touch with parishioners through Flocknote for weather alerts and ministry updates.
