The parish is famous for being built from bricks donated by the Atlas Cement Company after its buildings were demolished in the early 1940s. Today the church is located at 206 Union Street in a building formerly belonging to Our Lady of Mount Carmel Roman Catholic Church, exchanged in a one-on-one property swap in 2005.

Parish History
The Ukrainian community of Hudson, New York traces its origins to immigrants who arrived by 1910 and worked at the Hudson Portland Cement Company and the Atlas Cement Company. On May 31, 1916, they formed the religious corporation 'The Ruthenian Catholic Church of Saint Nicholas of Hudson, NY, Inc.' Early liturgical services were celebrated in St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, until 1922 when the community purchased a three-story house for use as chapel and rectory. Over the following decades, the parish grew and eventually outgrew its space, leading to the construction of a new church completed in 1943.

Building the 1943 Brick Church
When the buildings of the Atlas Cement Company were to be demolished, the parish asked that the bricks be donated for the construction of a new church. The Company generously granted the request, and parishioners transported and stored the bricks until construction began. The first service in the new church was held on July 4, 1943, with the formal dedication on Labor Day, September 9, 1943. In time, the interior acquired its traditional Eastern Rite design through the installation of an iconostasis and icons.
The 2005 Move to the Current Building
As the parish continued to need more spacious quarters, an opportunity arose in 2005. The former Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Roman Catholic Church, which had been closed since 1989, became available. The new owners of that church property agreed to exchange it on a one-for-one basis for the property then owned by St. Nicholas. The interior was redecorated in the Eastern Rite tradition by installing the iconostasis and other church furnishings. The official re-dedication and blessing was performed by Bishop Paul Chomnycky and Bishop Basil Losten.
