History and Heritage

Since the early 1980s, the Ukrainian Catholic community in Tucson has worked to maintain its identity and faith in southern Arizona. Originally meeting in a modest, hard-to-find makeshift chapel on the East Side, the congregation of about 25 people spent decades struggling to find regular priests. The community's hard-won permanent home was established in 2009 when they acquired the church building at 715 W. Vanover Road. This history gives the parish a profound sense of resilience, mirroring the endurance of their mother church in Ukraine.

  • Began in the early 1980s as a small house chapel on the East Side.
  • Finalized the purchase of their North Side church building in February 2009.
  • Houses a reconstructed iconostasis obtained from a Minneapolis church.
