St. Michael the Archangel is a Roman Catholic parish in Troy (North Greenbush), New York, part of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Albany. The parish was founded in 1872 as a mission of St. Joseph's Parish in South Troy and today worships in a church built in 1980 on Williams Road after fire destroyed the original 1872 building. The current pastor, Father Joseph O'Brien, shepherds St. Michael's together with St. Jude the Apostle Parish and School in Wynantskill, assisted by Pastor Emeritus Father James Mackey, Deacon Bob Sweeney, and a large lay volunteer community organized into faith formation, worship, pastoral care, social justice and evangelization ministries.

History of St. Michael the Archangel Parish
St. Michael the Archangel Parish was founded in 1872 as a mission of St. Joseph's Parish in South Troy, with the cornerstone of the original church laid on Stow Avenue. Jesuit Fathers staffed the new mission until 1888, when responsibility was transferred to the Diocese of Albany. The parish grew steadily — its school opened in 1887 under the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet — and weathered the closure of that school in 1943 during World War II. In 1978, fire destroyed the original church, and the parish rebuilt on Williams Road in North Greenbush, completing the new worship space in 1980. Successive renovations and additions — a seating expansion, a Faith Formation wing with seven classrooms, and a 2000 office wing — have shaped today's campus. The parish marked its 150th anniversary in 2022.

Faith Formation & Religious Education
Faith Formation for St. Michael the Archangel is coordinated jointly with St. Jude the Apostle by JoAnn and Steve Taylor, who can be reached at [email protected]. Classes meet in the seven classrooms added to the parish wing, supporting sacramental preparation for First Communion, Confirmation, and ongoing catechesis for parish youth.

Music & Liturgy
The Music Ministry, led by Music Director Joe Rizzo, enhances weekend and holy day liturgies through the parish choir, cantors, and instrumentalists. The choir rehearses weekly on Wednesdays at 6:30 PM during the school year. No tryouts are required — anyone interested in singing or playing is invited to join. Saturday Vigil and Tuesday noon Masses are live-streamed on the parish YouTube channel, with First Communion and Confirmation services also broadcast when requested.
