St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church is a bilingual (English/Spanish) parish of the Diocese of Dallas serving McKinney, Texas and the surrounding North Texas communities from its campus at 652 Redbud Lane. Our Story — 150 Years of Faith in McKinney
St. Michael the Archangel is among the oldest Catholic communities in North Texas. The parish traces its origin to 1870, when eight Catholics first gathered in McKinney. The community — first called the McKinney Mission — celebrated its first Mass on Palm Sunday 1895 in an upstairs room of the McKinney Opera House with Father A. O'Hara. After using members' homes and a donated plot on the edge of town, the mission took the name St. John's in 1903 and then St. Michael the Archangel in 1906. In 1915 it moved downtown to College and Heard Streets, then to its current Paula Road / Redbud Lane campus in 1960. The present 19,500-square-foot church was built in 2007, and on September 29, 2025 Bishop Edward J. Burns celebrated a special Mass for the parish's 150th Jubilee — a milestone originally reached in 2020 but postponed because of the pandemic.

Faith Formation & Youth Ministry (Grades 1–12)
Citing the Catechism of the Catholic Church (#2226) — 'The Parish is the Eucharistic community and the heart of the liturgical life of Christian families; it is a privileged place for the catechesis of children and parents' — St. Michael the Archangel runs a graded Faith Formation program alongside a Youth Ministry for older students. Registration for the 2025–2026 school year has closed; volunteers are recruited annually as catechists, aides, substitutes, and safety monitors.

OCIA / RICA — Christian Initiation of Adults
Adults seeking Baptism, Confirmation, or First Communion are formed through the parish's OCIA (Order of Christian Initiation of Adults), known in Spanish as RICA. Children age 7 or older seeking baptism are also directed into this process rather than the infant baptism track.
Sacraments — Baptism
Baptism is described as 'the gateway to the Christian life and the foundation of all the sacraments.' Because it is a sacrament of the Church — not a private event — the parish follows a defined preparation and scheduling process. Parents and sponsors (godparents) must attend a Baptism Preparation Class (English: 4th Saturday at 9:00 AM in the Church Office; Spanish: last Monday at 7:00 PM in the Church) and complete a Wednesday documentation review appointment before a baptism date can be scheduled.

Campus, Growth & Expansion
The parish has grown from roughly 60 Catholics in 1915 to over 4,000 registered families today, averaging 4,000 people at weekend services. To keep up with that growth, in November 2024 the parish began construction on a new multipurpose pastoral center on its Redbud Lane campus. The building will house faith formation classes and parish group meetings and feature six individual meeting rooms, one large meeting room, two offices, and a small reception room. Completion is targeted for December 2025.

Safe Environment
In accordance with Diocese of Dallas policy, all parish volunteers who work with children or vulnerable adults must be 'Safe Environment' cleared. This is a requirement for catechists, aides, substitutes, and youth ministry volunteers.
