History of St. Michael Church, Lyons

St. Michael's Catholic community in Lyons was founded in 1848. For its first few years, Masses were celebrated in parishioners' homes. The congregation was formally recognized in 1851 and met in a small church on Butternut Street, which has since been demolished. In 1852 the parish purchased a church building and acquired its first resident pastor. From 1859 to 1876, St. Michael temporarily served as a mission of St. John the Evangelist in Clyde. Ground was broken for the present St. Michael Church in 1890, and the building was completed in 1891. Today, St. Michael's remains a vibrant worship site within St. Joseph the Worker Parish, preserving its heritage as it moves forward with a spirit of openness and inclusion.

Mass & Worship Schedule

At St. Michael's Church in Lyons, the regular Mass schedule is Saturday Vigil at 4:00 PM and Friday morning at 8:30 AM. The other Masses of the cluster are celebrated at the sister churches: Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday morning Masses at St. John the Evangelist in Clyde; Wednesday evening at St. John the Evangelist; and Sunday afternoon at St. Patrick's in Savannah. In winter, if Lyons schools are closed or delayed, the Friday 8:30 AM Mass at St. Michael's is cancelled.

Faith Formation & Sacraments

The parish offers ongoing faith formation for all ages alongside sacramental preparation for the seven sacraments of the Catholic Church. Programs cover Baptism, First Communion, Confirmation, Marriage, Anointing of the Sick, and Funeral Preparation. The parish also publishes educational material on the Seven Sacraments under its 'Just Curious' outreach.
