Why belong here
St. Michael offers one of the most generous Mass schedules on Sioux Falls' south side — four Sunday Masses, a Saturday Vigil, daily weekday Masses, and daily confession opportunities several times a week — making it easy for busy families and working Catholics to find a time that fits. The parish runs a strong faith-formation program through its associated St. Michael School (PK–6) and the pastorate's Catechesis of the Good Shepherd program for younger children. As part of the Our Lady of Victory Pastorate, parishioners also benefit from shared discipleship, youth ministry, and prison ministry across two parishes, giving plenty of ways to get involved in spiritual growth, evangelization, and outreach.

A Shared Heritage with the Diocese of Sioux Falls
While the present-day St. Michael Parish at 1600 S. Marion Road is a 20th-century parish on Sioux Falls' south side, the patron's name connects it directly to the very first Catholic parish in Sioux Falls. St. Michael's was dedicated in 1881 by Fr. Martin Marty, the Vicar Apostolic of Dakota Territory, and it became the Pro-Cathedral of the Diocese of Sioux Falls upon the diocese's erection in November 1889 — the same month South Dakota became the 40th state. When Bishop Thomas O'Gorman commissioned a new cathedral in 1915, the brick St. Michael's was moved to clear the site for what is now the Cathedral of Saint Joseph, designed by Emmanuel Louis Masqueray (and completed after his 1917 death by Edwin Lundie), dedicated on May 7, 1919.
- Original St. Michael's: 1881 — first Catholic parish in Sioux Falls
- 1889: St. Michael's becomes Pro-Cathedral of the new Diocese of Sioux Falls
- 1915: Original church moved; site cleared for the Cathedral of Saint Joseph
- 1919: Cathedral of Saint Joseph dedicated by Bishop O'Gorman
